Mehr ist mehr, oder?
German version
Who are festivals organised for? For the artists, for whom the festival becomes a temporary home? For the audiences who want to enjoy the arts? For cultural policymakers, who want to make a mark on the international stage? Globally renowned festival organisers share their ideas and experiences in this panel discussion. And they address the question: What remains?
The International Theatre Institute – initiator and funder of the festival since 1981 – will be bringing a range of issues to the table: the discussion will cover the current festival programme as well as past Theater der Welt concepts and future ways of organising international theatre festivals. Because since its foundation, Theater der Welt has always been unique, new and innovative in the city where it is being hosted. But the festival landscape – in Germany, Europe, Asia, Africa, America – is also constantly changing.
The panel discussion will mark the start of ITI’s annual conference on this weekend. The launch of the festival is a welcome opportunity for the network of around 200 theatre makers and institutions to talk with artists, theatre directors and public sponsors about the future of international theatre exchange.
