For decades, women of Turkish descent worked at a BMW plant in Munich, where they shared experiences of silence, emotional exhaustion, and grueling physical labor, yet they also found strong solidarity among themselves, stood in solidarity with one another, and thus became Yoldaş, comrades. The singer Nihan Devecioğlu grew up as the granddaughter of workers of Turkish origin in the vicinity of the plant. In Yoldaş, she creates a poetic-musical space for memories—of her own childhood in 1980s Munich and of the women whose work has remained invisible to this day. Women’s voices, combined with machine noises and documentary footage, come together to form a vibrant collage of contemporary history, while simultaneously becoming an expression of self-empowerment and female solidarity.
Thematically fitting, the performance “Orakel” will take place on the same day following the event. There will be an after talk with Nazli Saremi for “Yoldaş – Frauen, die einander halten” and “Orakel” after the “Orakel”-Performance.
