The German militarism of the 19th century, once the driving force behind colonial violence, still casts a long shadow today - visible in the current rearmament, Germany's hesitant attitude towards a binding reconciliation with Namibia and in continuing neo-colonial structures that reproduce power and dependency relationships globally.
Dr. Dr. Matthias Häussler's lecture will be followed by a discussion with him and Prince Kamaazengi Marenga. Translation: Rita Böhmer.
Dr. Dr. Matthias Häussler is a philosopher and historian researching colonial rule for 15 years, with stays in Namibia, Botswana & South Africa. He published on German colonialism and edited Lothar von Trotha’s diary at Ruhr University.
