A sound research on the acoustic memory of armed conflicts. Mannheim-based musician Flo Huth reviewed interviews, news reports, and documentary platforms to identify sonic associations with warlike violence. Which sounds are associated with the attribute of war? Based on the term "belliphon," which combines the Latin word for war, "bellum," with the Greek word "phon" for voice (Martin Daughtry), the sound of conflict, from actual combat to everyday noises to artistic expression in pop and media culture, creates its own audible world. Be it the endless whir of emergency generators, the unusual silence in a blackout, the urgent sound of interviews and news reports, heroic rap, metal songs, or a glorifying nasheed. Taken together, they represent the voice of war, which determines a person's memory and psyche of it.
