Mwangi Hutter´s Performance and Installation “Against the Grain” coagulates the aggression of our medially inundated everyday life into subtle actions. The artists send an encouraging message from a scene, drifting into torpor: stay awake, cultivate compassion and preserve humanity. The work is a haunting mirror of our war-torn times that inspires reflection and action and encourages us not to be exhausted by the world.

Mwangi Hutter understand their artistic identity as “one personality made up of two bodies, two histories, two cultural backgrounds” - a living example of the dissolution of conventional notions of identity. They work in an interdisciplinary way with video, photography, painting, installation, performance, sound and sculpture. Their works question social conventions, gender roles, cultural origins and identity. The artistic fusion emphasizes the overcoming of boundaries and creates an aesthetic of interdependence and self-awareness.
